From Engineering...
I’m a UX designer with 7 years of experience in engineering and process improvement, including 3 years in UX.
I've always loved building things, optimizing processes, and figuring out how they work. My background in process improvement allows me to identify inefficiencies and design solutions that make systems better for users. After earning two advanced degrees in Materials Science, I realized that science and engineering alone weren’t the right fit. It wasn’t until my mom pointed out that every book I read for fun was about psychology that things started to make sense.
I wanted to blend psychology, creativity, and process improvement to make technology more user-friendly—and impactful. When I discovered UX, especially during the CareerFoundry UX Design bootcamp, I knew I had finally found what was right for me.
To UX Design
My background in engineering has given me a unique take on UX and made me good at:
🛠️ Problem-solving: I'm skilled at analyzing complex problems and finding effective and creative solutions.
🔍 Analytical thinking: I'm trained to think logically and critically and make data-driven design decisions.
💡 Technical knowledge: I have an understanding of programming and technical feasibility and practice working with developers.
🗣️ Communication: I've always worked in teams and have the communication skills that are vital in collaborating with other designers, developers, and stakeholders.
🤝 Empathy: I've always been interested in behavioral psychology and aimed to understand users' needs and create products and tech that cater to those needs.
📚 Continuous learning: I'm used to staying updated on the latest technologies and best practices, which is essential with the ever-evolving nature of UX design.
